New Dam City is a large settlement Sam and John reach as chapter 3 begins, after they've left Greenberg. The entire city is built on a large dam that stretches across an unnamed body of water. The "New" part in its name refers to its distinction from Oldtown in the City Outskirts, which was presumably inhabited before the arrival of the MIASMA. The current city is primarily defended from the MIASMA by the Buddha Fan/Wind God, which was constructed by Alva's grandfather for the sole purpose of keeping the MIASMA back by the power of wind.
